Globe Telecom Partners with Starlink to Boost Connectivity

Globe Telecom is betting on satellite technology to bridge the digital divide in the Philippines, announcing a partnership with Starlink to launch satellite-to-mobile services. The move aims to extend internet access to geographically isolated and underserved communities across the archipelago.
The company believes satellite technology will be a crucial differentiator in expanding connectivity, particularly in areas where traditional infrastructure like fibre optic cables and cellular towers are difficult or costly to deploy. This initiative is part of Globe's broader efforts to reach more Filipinos and improve digital inclusion nationwide.
The partnership with Starlink, a satellite internet constellation owned by SpaceX, allows Globe to leverage Starlink's network of low Earth orbit satellites. This technology offers the potential for faster speeds and lower latency compared to traditional satellite internet, making it more suitable for a wider range of applications, including mobile devices.
Globe Telecom has been actively exploring various technologies to improve connectivity in the Philippines. The rollout of satellite-to-mobile services marks a significant step in this direction, with the company anticipating positive impacts on education, healthcare, and economic opportunities in remote areas. Specific timelines for the service launch and pricing details were not immediately available, but Globe stated that it will provide further updates as the rollout progresses.
