Uganda: Ebola Cases Rise to 15 with 6 New Confirmations

KAMPALAUganda’s health ministry has confirmed six additional cases of Ebola, pushing the country’s total confirmed infections to 15, according to a statement released on Tuesday. The update, shared via the ministry’s X account, indicates that all six new cases are contacts of previously confirmed Ebola patients.

The ministry's statement did not provide specific locations of the new cases but emphasized ongoing efforts to trace and monitor individuals who may have come into contact with the virus. The current outbreak is linked to the Sudan ebolavirus, a strain for which there is no currently approved vaccine.

Uganda has experienced previous Ebola outbreaks, most recently in 2022, which were also linked to the Sudan ebolavirus strain. Health officials have been working to bolster preparedness measures, including strengthening surveillance systems, enhancing infection prevention and control protocols, and raising public awareness about Ebola symptoms and prevention strategies.

The ministry continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases immediately. Community engagement and adherence to public health guidelines are considered crucial in containing the spread of the virus. Further updates and detailed information are expected to be released by the Ministry of Health as the situation evolves.
