Google Secures $920M Monthly Computing Deal with SpaceX
Google has entered into a substantial agreement with SpaceX to procure computing power, committing to a monthly payment of $920 million, according to a recent regulatory filing. The deal, spanning until mid-2029, underscores the growing demand for advanced computing resources to support artificial intelligence and other data-intensive applications.
The filing reveals that Google will pay SpaceX for access to approximately 110,000 NVIDIA GPUs and related components. This significant investment highlights Google's reliance on external providers to supplement its own internal infrastructure, particularly as the competition to develop and deploy cutting-edge AI models intensifies.
The regulatory documents also stipulate a 90-day notice period for termination of the agreement, suggesting a degree of flexibility built into the arrangement. While the specific details of SpaceX’s computing infrastructure used to fulfil this contract remain undisclosed, the scale of the commitment – $920 million per month – points to a considerable investment by SpaceX in specialized hardware and related services.
This partnership signifies a notable shift in the cloud computing landscape, with Google leveraging SpaceX’s capabilities to meet its escalating computational needs. The agreement is expected to benefit both companies, providing Google with access to a large pool of GPUs and generating a steady revenue stream for SpaceX, beyond its core space exploration and launch services.
